Felt Love
6 min, 30 sec | Silent | Arlene Bongco and Angeline Vu
Felt Love, directed by Arlene Bongco and Angeline Vu, is a heartfelt story of a busy mother and her son who craves her attention. She deals with multitasking between her son and her overbearing job of sewing clothes. The young boy learns to understand the depth of love that his mother has for him, even though her work brings distance between them. With a full Asian American production team, Felt Love is based off of the organized chaos of Hong Kong family apartments in the 90s. The heartwarming story was inspired by each crew member's own experience growing up in Asian households. This student-run project from the animation class of 2020 at San Jose State University uses 2D animation and stop motion over a handmade set. A majority of the props used by the animated characters are a part of the physical set made by the team. Pre-production began in the summer of 2019, and was completed in May 2020.
