Why are people lonely? Are they distant from their family and the people they love? Do they feel like they fit in with society or are they feeling lost in life? This is a film about loneliness, in which two immigrants, a Chinese pianist and a Mexican worker, come to America for different reasons. They live next door to each other, but have never really met. They spend the day having similar experiences, experiencing failure and comfort in different ways. Shen skillfully uses the cross-editing technique to show the difficulties, confusion, and loneliness that many immigrants living in this country have through what these two characters
experience.
